Dear Alumni:
When I look back fondly on my school days in Summit, I remember not only the great friends I made, but also the many wonderful teachers, inspiring classes and fun-filled extra-curricular activities that helped me to discover who I am, and prepared me so well for the future. I was lucky to benefit from the kind of educational resources that have made Summit’s public schools among the highest achieving in our state and our nation.
Unfortunately, tomorrow’s students may not be as fortunate. Financing for public education is changing rapidly across our nation. As federal and state funding dries up for communities like Summit, private support for public education will become imperative.
Luckily for Summit, nearly 25 years ago, local residents formed the Summit Educational Foundation to promote excellence in our public schools. Over the last 10 years SEF has contributed more than $2 million to help fund innovative and essential programming for all children at all of our schools.
SEF is launching a groundbreaking initiative to establish a permanent endowment to support our public schools. Endowment funds will be used to help maintain the financial stability of our schools and to supplement the cost of academic and co-curricular programs that make the difference between an adequate and an excellent education.
To date we have raised approximately $3 million in contributions from parents and local residents. We hope you will join us by making a tax-deductible donation to SEF. When donating, please indicate “endowment” and your class year in the memo line of your check.
Please know that your money will be spent well and with purpose so that we may continue to help maintain the highest level of educational excellence for your alma mater.
