Jefferson and Washington Schools hosted a visit by author and illustrator Trinka Hakes Noble in March 2016, thanks to a grant from SEF. Ms. Noble is a New Jersey author who has published 28 books including the "Jimmy’s Boa" series. Some of the goals of the program were to inspire students to become lifelong readers and writers, awaken the students’ interest in literature and art, and teach them about the writing process. Ms. Noble gave a series of presentations to the kindergarten through fifth grades at each school over the course of two days. The students loved listening to and learning from a real author. Jake M., Jefferson 4th grader, said, "Author Trinka Hanks Noble was very interesting, and I learned a lot about how she worked with her illustrator to create the book, Scarlet Stockings Spy. Also, I was super excited because I was chosen to wear a British hat from the civil war and it felt pretty cool!"
