The Family Technology program is sponsored annually by SEF at all five elementary schools. The program is designed to engage parents and students in a variety of interactive technology activities, using resources including multimedia authoring software, digital video, digital audio, and other engaging software programs. The events continue to be a fabulous way for 4th grade students to introduce their parents to the latest technology in play in the classroom.
Jefferson Elementary School hosted two Family Technology Nights in spring of 2016. Fourth grade children, under the direction of teachers Mr. Hannis and Ms. Beck, shared a hands-on experience with the participating families using the programs iMOVIE and Comic Life. In iMOVIE, families chose a topic from the themes of the Solar System or Explorers to learn how to create a movie and add sound effects. In Comic Life, families created a poster about an explorer that interested them. It was a fun and engaging event for all that participated.
"The night provides a great opportunity for some family bonding while also engaging in new learning experiences," said Ms. Beck. "Family Technology Night is a nice chance for students to show their parents programs that are used for highly engaging and interactive culminating projects," added Mr. Hannis.
Parents and students alike enjoyed the event. "We spent a great evening at the Jefferson School Technology Night! It was so fun and interesting for us both, and rewarding to spend time with my son Jack," enthused parent Christine Zotti.
