Julius Caesar Performance
“Beware the Ides of March!” – was ironically spoken in Act 1, Scene 2 of Julius Caesar on the morning of March 17, 2017, in the auditorium of SHS. Funded by a grant by SEF, the full length performance by Shakespeare LIVE!, the touring branch of the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, was put on for the entire freshman class. The morning performance was followed by an afternoon of small group “Speak the Speech” workshops. The Bard’s plays were meant to be seen in performance rather than read in a classroom. This immersive experience brought the color, passion and drama of Julius Caesar to life. An auditorium which started full of fidgety fourteen and fifteen year-olds was transfixed by romance and political intrigue. By Caesar’s violent end, one could hear a pin drop, and it was rapt attention all around.
