Quintessence, Summit High School's Art and Literary Magazine, has been honored with two prestigious awards for the 2012-13 issue by the American Scholastic Press Association. The magazine received First Place with Special Merit. This award was given to only 15 schools in the country within the student enrollment range of SHS. Quintessence was also honored among 23 schools nationally as Most Outstanding Literary-Art Magazine. This is the second year in a row that Quintessence has received superior rankings!
Comments from the judges were, “Quintessence is an amazing publication! You have mastered not only the elements of a good publication, but you have also published excellent works from your school population. Quintessence is a model for those up-and-coming magazines and an inspiration for those magazines that haven't quite aced the necessary skills."
Quintessence is published by a student editorial team each spring and is currently accepting submissions of art and creative writing. Funding for the magazine has been made possible through the generous support of the Summit Education Foundation.
Adviser, Mr. Michael Magdalenski, said, "I am so proud of our staff for their year-long commitment to showcase the incredible artistic and written talent of the SHS community."
Students interested in joining this year's staff can come to the regular meetings held on Wednesday mornings and Thursdays after school, or contact Mr. Magdalenski for more information.
