MEGHAN ARTS-SCOZZARI HONORED IN THE SUMMIT TIMES

The Summit Educational Foundation The Summit Educational Foundation is pleased to honor Meghan Arts-Scozzari, Sculpture and Ceramics teacher at Summit High School, as the 2026 recipient of SEF’s Nora Radest Award for Excellence in Education. Ms. Arts-Scozzari received a special certificate, $500 from SEF and her name will join the list of previous Nora Radest Award recipients on SEF's website.

In 2013, SEF established the Nora Radest Award for Excellence in Education to honor Nora Radest, a former mayor of Summit and past SEF President and board member, whose vision for and dedication to SEF spanned many years. Each year, the award is given to a teacher or administrator who has submitted grants through the SEF process and, in so doing, has greatly enriched the classroom environment and served as a role model to others in the district.

Meghan has been teaching Sculpture and Ceramics at Summit High School since 2012. During that time, she has helped grow the 3D art program to include Sculpture/Ceramics 2, Advanced Ceramics, and AP 3D Studio Art.

Through the SEF grant process, Meghan has continually sought ways to provide students with more advanced, hands-on, and authentic experiences in the ceramic arts. Her grants have supported Raku workshops, introducing students to an ancient Japanese ceramic firing technique through demonstration and practice; Advancer kiln shelves, which improve safety, reliability, and the quality of student work; and most recently, a new Bailey Thermal Logic kiln, providing safer, more precise, professional-level equipment for the SHS ceramics studio.

Taken together, these grants reflect exactly what SEF seeks to support: teacher-driven ideas that expand what is possible for students. Meghan’s vision and initiative have strengthened the ceramics program at Summit High School and created meaningful new opportunities for students to explore, create, and grow as artists.
